REEEP Southern Africa Regional Secretariat

REEEP Sectretariat to relocate to Pretoria or Johannesburg

In the coming months REEEP is looking to move the Southern Africa regional secretariat to the Pretoria/Johannesburg region, so that it is closer to policy makers and decision makers within the SADC region. Please watch the REEEP Press for details and the latest news on this important development.
 
Regional Regulators Workshop in Tanzania
REEEP-SA will host a Workshop on EE and RE for Regulators on 11 November 2008 in Arusha, Tanzania.  The workshop is co-funded by Saneri and will be held in tandem with the 5th Annual Conference of the Regional Electricity Regulators Association (RERA), which is aptly titled “Inspired regulators can expedite brightening the dark continent”.

REEEP-SA input into 16th Session of UN Commission on Sustainable Development
The sixteenth session of the Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD-16) convened for its fifth day on Friday, 9 May, 2008, at United Nations headquarters in New York.  Delegates continued their consideration of the thematic cluster for the 2008/2009 implementation cycle - agriculture, rural development, land, desertification, drought and Africa.

The Electricity Governance Initiative, South Africa
The Electricity Governance Initiative (EGI) is launching a new effort in South Africa with the aim of improving governance of the electricity sector. The initiative will analyze government and regulatory capacity to create the right conditions for the promotion of renewable energy, efficiency, and social equity, in line with sustainable development and public interests.

REEEP-funded projects in Southern Africa

REEEP-SA is currently administering two projects in the region: “Developing a vehicle for solar water heater mass implementation in South African cities” and “Integrated Rural Energy Utility (IEU) Roadmap”. These projects continue to progress well and and are making a positive impact in the region.
