Renewable Energy City Summit of the South African Cities Network (SACN)
REEEP-SA is pleased to have been an associate host of the SACN Renewable Energy City Summit that took place on the 13-14th of May 2008 at Spier Wine Estate in Stellenbosch. The REEEP-funded project on mass-implementation of SWH in three cities was presented by Sustainable Energy Africa (SEA).  Although the project is still underway, the key lessons learnt from this project were shared with the other cities/municipalities present.  REEEP-SA hopes that this will inspire the other municipalities to do the same.

Overall, the RE Summit was well attended with 300 delegates (48% were from local government) and there were 47 speakers.  For a summary of the key outcomes and some indication of the positive outputs of the workshop, please see the mayoral declaration as an Annexure to the final report from the event. The second day of the conference was dedicated to showcasing practical solutions to some of the challenges faced by cities in terms of the accelerated uptake of renewable energy and energy efficiency systems.
