Regional Regulators Workshop in Tanzania |
REEEP-SA will host a Workshop on EE and RE for Regulators on 11 November 2008 in Arusha, Tanzania. The workshop is co-funded by Saneri and will be held in tandem with the 5th Annual Conference of the Regional Electricity Regulators Association (RERA), which is aptly titled “Inspired regulators can expedite brightening the dark continent”.
The regulatory context for energy efficiency (EE) and renewable energy (RE) is acknowledged to be critical for more equitable and accelerated levels of access to clean and reliable energy in Southern Africa. Policy and regulation have been one of the three pillars of REEEP’s strategy since the inception of the partnership in 2003. REEEP has funded the Sustainable Energy Regulation Network (SERN) and specific projects which have addressed the issues of policy and regulation in the southern African region.
The main objectives of this REEEP workshop would be to:
- Review and confirm the role of EE and RE in delivering increased access to reliable and affordable energy services in the SADC region
- Review and assess the status and progress with policy and regulation for EE and RE in the SADC region
- Present research findings of REEEP (and other) projects which inform the understanding and debate
- Identify and prioritise gaps and opportunities for supporting better policy and regulation
- Make recommendations for taking these issues forward.
The workshop will present findings and work-in-progress from REEEP- and Saneri-funded projects in Southern Africa.
REEEP-SA will provide more information on this event soon in the form of an event website. |
