New Version of RETScreen Software developed in collaboration with REEEP

The Government of Canada has officially launched the latest version of the RETScreen International Clean Energy Project Analysis Software. The RETScreen software, available free-of-charge to industry and the public, is a software tool developed to help decision makers assess the viability of clean energy options. RETScreen is now being used by more than 129, 000 people across the world and is quickly becoming the international standard for clean energy project analysis.

Zambian Energy Regulation Board's Decision on Tariffs

In line with its legal mandate to regulate prices of energy services and products, the Zambian Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has considered a proposal to review electricity tariffs, other charges, fees and penalties following  an application by ZESCO Limited. The board has agreed on percentage increases for the period 2007-2010 the details of which can be found in a press release from the ERB.
 
REEEP-SA hosts CFEE delegation

On the 5th of November 2007, REEEP SA hosted as part of an energy policy and technology tour in South Africa, a delegation of state legislators and top energy regulators in California, US. This delegation was led by the California Foundation on the Environment and the Economy (www.cfee.net).

This meeting provided a useful platform through which REEEP-SA could engage and share ideas and experiences in terms of the implementation of renewable energy and energy efficient systems between South Africa and the State of California. The delegation was pleased with the warm reception it received from REEEP-SA and both parties are in plan to solidify synergies established during those discussions on matters of mutual concern.

 
Registration of Interest - WIREC Regional Consultation

The US State Department has asked the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP) to carry out preparatory regional consultation meetings for the Washington International Renewable Energy Conference (WIREC), which will be held on 4-6 March 2008. REEEP will therefore undertake three regional consultations in Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia and Southern Africa.

REEEP partners with RERA

At a recent conference hosted by the Regional Electricity Regulators Association of Southern Africa (RERA) themed “Contributing towards a sound investment climate for the power sector through effective regulation”, the REEEP Regional Secretariat for Southern Africa had the opportunity to strengthen its partnership with RERA. Both parties look forward to future collaborative efforts within the Southern African region. REEEP-SA also had the opportunity to build on existing relations with other regional organizations represented at the conference. More information about RERA is available at: www.rerasadc.com.
 
Eskom’s Electricity Price Increase for 2008/2009

South Africa's National Energy Regulator (NERSA) approved a 14.2-percent tariff increase for state-owned utility Eskom's 2008/09 financial year and turned down the power firm's request for a 18.7 percent increase. NERSA's press release can be obtained here.

REEEP funds ten projects in the Sub-Saharan Africa region

Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP) has announced it will fund thirty-five new projects. The funding round, REEEP’s sixth, represented the largest in its four year history.
