Southern Africa Solar Water Heating Summit 29 March 2007

More than 100 delegates from Europe, Australia, Brazil and southern Africa met at the Solar Water Heating Summit to share insights, experiences and financing models for Solar Water Heaters.

Five years ago, southern African delegates met in Pretoria to launch the Southern African Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP) secretariat , consider the energy needs of the region and lament the lack of interest, finance and commitment. at the end of March , delegates presented project report-backs rather than proposals, and considered budgets spent rather than budgets sought.

Presentation made to the IEA by REEEP Co-ordinator for Southern Africa

In July 2007, Glynn Morris (REEEP Co-ordinator for Southern Africa) was invited to give a  presentation to the IEA (International Energy Agency) in Paris on the “Global Renewable Energy Markets and Policies Programme” with specific focus on profiling South Africa in a global context (see this website). 6th Project Call Shortlist

The 6th call for proposals was the biggest call yet, with over 3 Million Euro's made available by donors for projects. REEEP SA received 84 proposals for the 6th call, of which 12 proposals have been shortlisted and recommended to the international secretariat for development into full proposals. Metering, Billing and CRM Africa 2007 — part of African Utility Week — is expecting a record turnout of delegates in Cape Town from the 28 May - 1 June 2007. Last year, 1200 delegates attended the African Utility Week conference and registrations are already streaming in for this years event, taking figures to an all time high.

African Utility Week is the largest metering, billing and customer service event in Africa, and includes Metering, Billing/CRM Africa and International and South African Prepayment Weeks, as well as other power sector events. A comprehensive exhibition, including a Power Lifestyle SMART LIVING EXPO, which will bring the important issue of energy efficiency to the foreground, and will enable viewing of the latest technologies that are available in South Africa as well as in the international market.
